A Path for Michiganders to Get Ahead
The Whitmer/Gilchrist administration created Michigan Reconnect to provide the opportunity to earn a tuition-free associate degree or skills certificate for more than 4.1 million Michiganders who are 25 or older or do not have a college degree. They also launched Futures for Frontliners, which offers a tuition-free opportunity to skills training or postsecondary education for the Michiganders who worked in frontline jobs during the pandemic.
Governor Whitmer and Lt. Governor Gilchrist are fighting to create more economic opportunity and good-paying jobs by investing in small businesses and lowering costs for families feeling pain from inflation.
The Whitmer/Garlin administration set up 23 different COVID-19 economic relief programs, which delivered over $240 million to small businesses in every county. Overall, that relief supported over 25,000 companies and helped keep over 200,000 jobs. As a result, Michigan has experienced the fastest small business growth in 23 years and a 24% increase in small business revenue.
They are also fighting to cut costs for families, including a proposal to save half a million households an average of $1,000 a year by finally repealing the retirement tax. They’ve also proposed plans to help over 730,000 working families get ahead by tripling the Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit, saving them a combined average of $3,000.
